There is a growing buzz around photostable sunscreens. But what are they? It refers to a type of sunscreen that is effective and stable when exposed to UV radiation, heat, or light, so that these sunscreens don't degrade quickly, unlike traditional sunscreen lotion.

They don't degrade quickly, So are effective for long duration and reduces the need for reapplication.

Traditional sunscreens typically have chemical active ingredients like oxybenzone, avobenzone, or octinoxate. These chemicals absorb UV rays and convert them into heat, which can lead to degradation over time. Whereas photo photostable sunscreens use different active ingredients like Mexoryl, Zinc Oxide.

Why are they better ?

  1. Reduced reapplication frequency: You may not need to reapply sunscreen as often as they last longer.
  2. Improved effectiveness: They provide better overall protection against the sun's harmful rays, they can be formulated with fewer chemical active ingredients, making them a more sustainable option.
