Betadine was known to me as some red brown mess that is put on wounds to make them even more messy 😉, I mean as antiseptic, but it was only during covid that its oral use for gargles came to my knowledge. So, what is the deal with betadine, and what else can it do?

It is a unique combination of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and iodine

This combination gives a broad-spectrum protection against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores. It is widely used for wound healing, prevent infection and reduce scarring. Also used as pre and post surgery (that is what oozes out of bandages post-surgery not usually blood).

Uses of Betadine

  • Betadine is effective against a range of infectious diseases, including conjunctivitis, impetigo, and ringworm.
  • It is used to treat skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and acne.
  • Betadine oral solution is commonly recommended to soothe sore throats, prevent strep throat, and reduce the severity of colds.

So it is a powerful antimicrobial and is a good protector of your health and wellbeing.
