If you say true, then you are tiny winy bit correct. But yes, I admit you are correct. And why are you correct has nothing to do with vaporizing effect of cough syrups as suggested by my husband but because liquids are absorbed faster than solids.

As soon as we take medication through our mouths the breakdown and absorption starts, tablets or pills directly reach our stomach where the acids break it down, where as the syrups begin their absorption in the mouth through the food pipe and eventually the stomach, post that they have similar story. Now comes the entry of sugar free cough syrups, well these types of syrups are little slower than full on sugar-based syrups because sugar dissolves faster in the bloodstream.

Cough syrups can start to work a bit faster than tablets but there is no known difference in their effectiveness.

"So are cough and cold syrups really better? Well, the answer lies in the taste buds of the sufferer… I personally would prefer the tablets."

While we are at it, let me add that most syrups contain menthol or its counterparts, these help sooth the throat or even desensitize it so that we don’t feel the effect of sore throat. But point to be noted is that menthol is not a medicine neither it will cure the disease it is just a symptom alleviator. Cold also brings symptom of blocked nose that can be effectively taken care of with steam inhalation.
